Data Collection Methods Making Land Cover Maps

1. Image Interpretation Method

Image Interpretation Method Image interpretation method is done digitally on Citra Oli 8 2017 which is downloaded. The method used to see the condition of the cover is because the oil image has a near infrared channel and a red band is used to distinguish the type of vegetation and differentiate between land and vegetated land. The steps for interpretation start from processing / pre-processing (1) Image import (2) Atmospheric correction (3) Geometric correction (4) Image cropping (5) Image sharpening to image classification. Image classification aims to group or make segmentations regarding homogeneous features. Classification of interpretation results using Unsupervised classification. Unsupervised classification uses an algorithm to assess or analyze the size of an unknown pixel and divide it into a number of classes based on the grouping of digital image values. The resulting class from unsupervised classification is the spectral class (Purwadhi and Tjaturahono, 2008).

In image interpretation activities, the classification category is defeated by the objectives and desired information. The classification categories used in this working practice are those that cover several types of land cover which are mostly environmental in the criteria for forest and land cover classes issued by the Ministry of Forestry. For the interpretation of Landsat imagery, there are 23 classes consisting of 7 forest classes (primary forest, secondary forest, primary swamp forest, secondary swamp forest, primary mangrove forest, secondary mangrove forest and plantation forest) and 15 classes (bush and ins and outs of swamp). , Grass, Plantation, Dry Land, Camp Dryland Agriculture, Rice Fields, Ponds, Open Land, Mining, Settlements, Transmigration, Airports, Swamps, Air and Clouds, Non-Forest and Cloud-covered Class (BAPLAN 2008a).

2. Field Survey

The field survey was carried out by direct observation in the field to find out the correctness of a location of cover based on predetermined category classifications and made from the interpretation of Landsat Oli 8 images, namely 23 classes, each class was made of 10 survey points so that the survey points were 230 famous pieces in the observation area.

3. Documentation Methods

Collecting data from several sources used for data processing and constituting secondary data, used as supporting data in the field visiting relevant agencies to obtain data in the form of documents, archives of land use data, geology, soil types, and maps relevant to support this field work practice.
